#5 first week success

i'd like to say my official week of teaching has come to an end!

at the end of each unit, the district gives out a test -- and today was test day. i got to see how well the students learned and although not everyone got everything correct, i'm happy to see the improvements the students made :) makes me confident that my teaching has been somewhat effective.

because i don't have a lot of time to actually get to sit and talk to the students - i gave them all an index card and asked them to write one thing they had fun with this week / one activity that really helped them learn, two things i should know about them, and one thing they want to know about me. they commented on how they had fun with the shaving creme and spongebob word problems == *score.

we had a couple minutes before they had to go to the computer lab and they asked me where i was from. i had my hair up in a bun today and a couple of them commented on how i looked exceptionally chinese today haha. kids make me laugh. i got out a map and told them that my parents are from korea and all they could comment on was how close it was to japan :)

the students are really starting to warm up to me.

spongebob word problems make learning a lot more fun.

i forgot to make a meat picture for one of the ingredients for making a krabby patty but of course the students caught it. haha.

although all of the students weren't fully engaged the whole time, i was glad to see them being enthusiastic. hmm..it's really hard to keep everyone's full attention the entire time!

also, even though i thought i planned out a lot -- i wish i planned more on really breaking down the steps for problem solving.

tomorrow = test day! going to see if my teaching methods have actually been effective.
i'm crossing my fingers!
